Chelsea has had a great season this year. Winning the Champions League after months of turmoil. Winning the biggest trophy in Europe have cemented every Chelsea player’s place among the legends. There is however one more cup to win, the EURO 2020. Going to the EURO with the most number of players, Chelsea players had a great chance to win both the Champions League as well as EURO. Players like Havertz, Werner, Kante, and Giroud have been eliminated from the tournament but still, there is at least one Chelsea player in every team on the Semifinal stage. At this point, it is certain that one Chelsea player will win the EURO 2020. Let’s look at who could win both the trophies.
Jorginho
Italy are in the next stage and play Spain in the Semifinal. They have been the best team of the tournament so far, winning all their games comfortably. Jorginho the regista has been immense for them coming after winning the Champions League with great confidence. There are talks about him winning Ballon d’Or after France and Kante have been outed from EURO 2020. If Italy win this tournament then Jorginho would certainly offer a claim to the Ballon d’Or having won Champions League and EURO in the same year.
Mount, Chilwell, James
Will football finally come home this year? England fans seem to be extra hopeful and rightfully so. Their team has just beaten Ukraine emphatically by a score of 4-1 and reached the Semifinal. They play Denmark in the next stage a team that England could certainly get past with this level of form. If England win EURO 2020, then the trio of Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell and Reece James would become three players to win the Champions League and EURO in the same year.
Christensen
Denmark has had a very difficult start to the EURO. Christen Ericksen suffered a cardiac arrest in the first game sending the whole footballing world into meltdown. Thankfully he recovered but is a major miss to the Denmark team. The team however collected themselves and went again winning all their next matches. They have reached the semi-finals after defeating the Cech Republic and look like the dark horse of the tournament. If Denmark win EURO 2020 then Andres Christensen would be the player to win both Champions League and EURO in the same year.
Azpilicueta
Chelsea and Spain captain Azpilicueta is seldom given the respect that he deserves. Despite winning Premier League, Europa League and now Champions League, pundits and fans are reluctant to put him among the best of the best. Spain seemed to struggle a bit in the earlier stages but are playing with confidence now. Spain winning the EURO 2020 would make Azpilicueta the only player to win EURO as well as Champions League this year.
Whichever team wins the EURO 2020, it is certain that a Chelsea player would be a winner. These players could also lay claim to the Ballon d’Or but since the award is mostly given to goalscorers, the chance of a Chelsea player getting it are slim.
