One of the only shining lights among the myriad of journalists, Ravish Kumar has resigned from NDTV following its takeover by business tycoon Gautam Adani-led Adani Group. Adani who is known to have close ties with BJP and PM Narendra Modi has been expected to make major changes to NDTV’s functions. These changes are expected to hamper NDTV’s slightly leftist leaning.
Earlier NDTV’s founders and promoters Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy also resigned as directors on the board of RRPR Holding Private Limited. Adani Group bought a 29.18% stake in TV channel NDTV Ltd on August 23.
Suparna Singh, the president, of NDTV Group, said, “Few journalists have impacted people as much as Ravish. This reflects in the immense feedback about him; in the crowds, he draws everywhere; in the prestigious awards and recognition he has received, within India and internationally; and in his daily reports, which champion the rights and needs of those who are under-served.”
Notably, Ravish Kumar was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay award for ‘harnessing journalism to give voice to the voiceless’ in 2019. 47-year-old Ravish Kumar hails from East Champaran, Bihar, and hosted a number of shows like Hum Log, Ravish ki report, Des ki baat and Prime Time with Ravish Kumar on NDTV.
