Greta Thunberg: Activist Or A Puppet?

Climate change is real whether or not you believe in it. While the extent of it could be debated, there is no denying its arrival. It is already upon us, and if we human beings, the primary suspects, don’t do anything there could be grave consequences, examples of which are already being seen in Lagos, Manila, UAE and many other parts of the world.

This video shows a rise in Global temperature from 1880 to 2018 and this is enough proof of the calamity staring right into our collective eyes. The below infographic shows a continuous change in global temperature as opposed to no change in the energy received by the earth.

This brings me to Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old Swedish activist who is making waves across the globe for her speech at the UN. The speech in which she seems angry at the adults and policymakers around the world. Her, “how dare you” speech became instantly popular for it being so direct at such a prestigious podium. She spoke quite furiously at world leaders for ruining her childhood and dragging her across the ocean to right the wrongs.

The thing is, however, none of those is the doing of world leaders. It is her parents who are responsible for missed classes at school and her voyage through the ocean in a sailing boat. It is they who have put selective data in the head and freaked her out to the point that it’s dangerous for her mental health. Children in the west are paraded in mass protests by their parents as a result of Greta Thunberg. Little kids who are told that the world is about to collapse and they must march on the streets. That’s a prime example of bad parenting. You don’t impose your ideas on your kids, you let them decide for themselves when they are old enough.

The left is using kids at the frontline for war against climate change and the right. This creates a huge disruption in the working of the media and politics as a whole because criticizing it becomes a criticism of little kids and how dare someone do that! People are getting fired left side and center from their jobs because they said disapprovingly about Greta Thunberg. People are spoken down when they utter a word against Thunberg online.

“How weak you have to be that a 16-year-old girl frightens you” read a comment on Twitter.

This is where the whole problems lies. When it suits the left, Greta Thunberg becomes a warrior against patriarchy, afraid of no one, and when a slight criticism comes her way she becomes, “just a little 16-year-old girl”. Saying that she has a mental illness when she herself told that she has Aspergergs is now considered hate speech. We have somehow become children since kids got involved in the issue.

One thing the girl has done though is made shockwaves around the globe and got people talking about the issue. Greta Thunberg has also pissed trump. Not to say that the governments around the world were not already trying to switch to better energy resources and curb pollution, but now they would be even more pressurized to make the switch. And that for me is the biggest takeaway from all this.
