India Team for Boxing Day Test Announced

The Indian team for the Boxing day match against Australia has been announced and it could be the youngest test team for India in a long long time. There is quite a lot of changes in the team. Shaw has been replaced with Shubman Gill due to a poor showing in the first match. Mohammad Siraj has been included at the place of Mohammad Shami due to an injury.

Rishabh Pant who had a good practice match has been included in the place of Saha. Jadeja has been included in the team as well and after a very long time, the duo of Ashwin and Jadeja would play together in a test.

Two debutants

Shubman Gill and Mohammad Siraj will be playing for the very first time for their country in a test match. It would be interesting to see how they perform under pressure in their very first match without experienced players like Dhoni, Kohli or Rohit Sharma in the team. Both of them has a very good red ball record at home.

Rohit Dilemma

Rohit Sharma would be fit for the third test which means it would make team selection even more difficult. He is the incumbent opener with Shaw and Gill as backups. If Gill performs well it would be difficult to sit him out and give the place to Rohit. If the team selectors decide to play both, Vihari would then have to make way for them, despite not technically fighting for the same spot. Or will the team go with an extra batsman? It’s a bit confusing at this point.
