The uncertain RCB and late bloomers MI locked horns in the 8th match to raise heart rates all across India. In a game that went right down to the wire, RCB eventually won. Batting first RCB scored a very respectable 201-3 all thanks to 3 half-centuries from Padikkal, Finch and ABD. Mumbai Indians had a slow start with first three wickets going at just 39 runs and it looked like the game is going away from them. Until Pollard and Ishan Kishan started going for it. MI needed more than 90 runs in the last 5 overs and they actually went ahead and did that.
An incredible inning of 99 of 58 balls from Ishan Kishan and an equally amazing 60 of 24 from Pollard dragged MI to the gates of victory. In the end, it was tied and the game went to a super over. This was the 2nd super over in just 10 games that have been played so far in the IPL.
A comparatively calm Super Over
After the incredible run chase from MI, the super over seemed quite ordinary. MI sent Panday and Rohit to bat with Saini bowling at the other end. Saini restricted MI for just 7 runs. Kohli and ABD came in from RCB and got the job done on the last ball to raise RCB to 3rd spot in the points table.
There were many deserving players for the Man of the Match award. Ishan Kishan and Pollard almost won MI the game hitting 90 runs in last 5 overs. Sunder gave 12 runs in 4 overs with a wicket in a match where both teams scored 200+ scores. But it was the ABD who was awarded the Man of the match for his 55 of 24.
With RR, DC, KXIP and RCB doing well this could be the year where a team other than MI or CSK wins the trophy.
